Enville 13.3.18

This event was originally scheduled to be on the Lodge course,  which we have already played twice this season,  so I was pleased that we had the chance to play the HIghgate.  I let everyone know by email and of course told them when they arrived.

One hundred and eight players fully understood the instructions and thoroughly enjoyed the course. However, the Bewildered Four from Hagley came back after their round having played the Lodge course. They are all seasoned Teetours campaigners who, for many years, have been operated under the expert guidance of Lyndon Tyler, Hagley Golf Club’s great golf organizer.

Accepting his mistake, the eternally good humoured Lyndon picks up the accolade of being the only team captain, at one of these events, to come joint first, second, third and last. Hence forth he will be known as “Which Way Tyler”

After an unusually prolonged and harsh winter it was good to see so many players in short sleeves enjoying the sunshine and the first harbingers of spring.

Peter Aldridge and Justin Hadley played with David Aagaard and Phil McTiffin. After posing for their team photo Peter warned me that I may need their permission to publish the picture, as they had already sold their media rights.  When I asked who had they sold them to? Peter replied “Farmers Weekly”!

It was very good to see Russell Fitzpatrick and son Alex, who had a tortuous journey down from their native Sheffield.  Alex is still an amateur but off plus 4, it may only be a matter of time before he follows in the footsteps of older brother and British Masters champion, Matthew (who he now out drives on a regular basis!)

Thankfully,  Teetours regular Derek Skett is on the mend. While golfing recently in Turkey, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.  How lucky he was to discover that one of the World’s leading neurosurgeons was based close the course and was able to see him.

It was tight at the top with the first five places separated by only 2 points!

Lee Nightingale took longest drive on 18

Nearest the pin on 5 was hotly contested and finally talked by John Swann

Nearest the pin on 14 was a done deal early as Mike Rose dropped his ball straight in the hole for a 1. Mike will come to Little Aston as my guest for his achievement.
