In contrast to the week before at Ladbrook, a rare day of October sunshine brought out the best smiles from those relishing the dry heathland at the top of Cannock Chase and the delights of Beau Desert.
Although some were tempted to wear shorts in defiance of the impending winter, Kedleston's Louise Manning was taking no chances with a bobble hat that one can only assume she was modelling for Hobbycraft.
Teetours regular Armani Dave took 5 handicap Martin Kirkbride under his wing and the pair, who were previously unknown to each other, brought home a very creditable 42 points for 4th place.
They clearly got on well and talked long in to the afternoon in the bar. The conversation was interesting as farmer Dave listened intently to Martin’s revelation that Sutton Coldfield Golf Club is on common land in Sutton Park. When Dave found out that a rival farmer from Yorkshire brings cattle down to graze in the park each summer, you could see the cogs working in his mind. I recon Dave will be trying to work the grazing rights into a membership at Sutton to get his annual subs as a tax deductible expense.
We welcomed the Smit brothers from Halesowen to their first Teetours event and paired them with Hagley’s ever-sociable Lyndon Tyler and Geoff Tibbetts. Geoff’s pituitary gland got very excited when he found out the Smits run a Pawn Shop in Halesowen. On further investigation, Geoff was very deflated when he found out the business is called Cash Brokers rather than Pulse & Cocktails.
Seriously good golf was played by Alan Freeman 5 and Alan Wrigley 3. They were narrowly beaten into 3rd place on a count back of 44 points; Alan Freeman having had no les than 7 birdies. Had the pair not lost a shot three weeks ago, for their win at Whittington, they would probably have carded 46 - Putting them close to winning score of 48 from Andy Bates 13 and Steve Broderick 20.
