Despite five months rain falling in the last 5 weeks, Brocton Hall Golf Club played very well indeed and the greens were particularly good.
Brocton is small but was perfectly formed by Harry Vardon in 1923. At less than 5800 yards off the yellows and par 69, it is not unusual to see some big scores come in. And in contrast to the previous week at Edgbaston the greens are much easier to read.
The beautiful parkland was in its Autumn finery and, after the first bit of drizzle had disappeared a very enjoyable days golf was had by all.
Following the trials and triumphs outside, jovial banter pervaded the magnificent Georgian mansion just as it should.
Many thanks to last year's skipper of Hagley Golf Club, Lyndon Tyler, for stepping in at the last minute to replace a drop out.
Good to see two very nice ladies on the day, Angela Allington and Sue Smart.
Furthest travellers on the day were, I think, my old friend John Kidney and his soon-to-be Son-in-law Matt Cuthbert. Matt is a golf club manufacturing wizard from the Ping factory in Gainsborough and spends his summer out on the tour trying to keep the pros happy.
Martin Gadsby's drive down 14 was not only the longest but also produced the most requests for a urine sample!
Terry Hill's son Jon is a banking I.T. guru, recently seconded to work in Stockholm from whence he returned to play with Dad and have a much cheaper beer I suspect. This gave Terry his first podium finish of the season, with 47 points, demonstrating just how much your dad misses you Jon!
The show was stolen by Stevie Neale and Nick Chauhan with 49 points and if anyone wishes to dispute the score with Stevie they are welcome to do so (However, he is a retired boxer!)
