Given the impending doom that storm Brendan promised to inflict anytime after 3pm, the shotgun start was brought forward to 10am. This proved to be one of my unusually wise decisions and meant that everyone got round the course in relatively reasonable conditions, compared to the deluge I drove home in at 5.30.
Although the weather was inclement, the wonderful heathland on the Lodge course held up well, with only minor standing water for a brief period on one or two greens. Indeed I received several emails from players who were pleased to stand on a dry course; their own being fully or partially closed. And it is at times like this that the full value of membership at a course like Enville becomes apparent.
The final scores belied a blustery day with intermittent showers.
The longest drive on 13 was taken by Stevie Neale, who spends a lot of time in the gym which clearly shows. There is a small hill at about 230 yards down the fairway; Stevie clearly hit the downslope to take full advantage of the run and I paced it out at nearly 300 years, when I collected the marker.
Nearest the pins went to Martin Bedwell and Damien Mc'Gill (Enville's newest member)
Podium finishers were:
3rd - Rebecca Brookes and Nick Gould with 44.
2nd - The Pawn brothers Robert and Alan Smit with 45
1st - Tony Bonser and Richard Guilford with 47
