Beau Desert 14. 11. 18

When Tim Gilpin took over the management of this lovely golf club he rang me to give me his good news and invite me to put a Teetours event on.  I was thrilled, as it was always on my wish list.

Looking out from the highest point of the course, across the arboreal majesty of Cannock Chase, it could be easily be Swinley Forest. In the sunshine of a perfect autumn day,  the multiplicity of colours seemed almost unreal,  making it a truly delightful place to play golf.

In Teetours terms,  it was a relatively small field of 48 players but a most jovial atmosphere pervaded the bar afterwards, helped in no small part by the generosity of Gary Ferrar,  who won nearest the pin on the 10th with a proper quality shot that pitched just past the pin and then spun back for a hole in one.  True gentleman that Gary is, he bought two bottles of Scotch and put them on the bar for the assembled.

It was good to see team leader Alan McPeake out for a walk round with his players from Uttoxeter as he recovers from surgery on his foot.

Terry Hill’s team contained the only lady of the day,  Hilary Fabian, making a welcome first of hopefully many appearances.

Armani Dave (thus named for his total disinterest in sartorial elegance) told me he had had a hair cut this week but to be honest I couldn’t see any difference; he still looked like a startled labradoodle.

Potato guru Andy Page was filled with a sense of deja vu as be thinks he may have been conceived on Cannock Chase.

It was tight at the top with second to sixth places all being decided on count back, but top spot on the podium went to Robin Upton and Alan Morley with 42.
