Edgbaston 9.11.18 Results

Two years ago Edgbaston had the same problem with its greens that dogged Little Aston the year before.  A layer of thatch, deep beneath the normal extent of hollow tining,  that becomes an impermeable barrier,  thus preventing surface water getting to the underlying drainage.  The result is spongy greens that do not putt well and show every footprint.

I’m delighted to report that,  following the requisite program of very deep coring and sanding, the problem has been solved and the greens are once again restored to the firm but receptive surfaces expected on a course of this quality.

A full field of 80 enjoyed this lovely inner-city gem;  many of whom declare it to be one of their favourites, and why wouldn’t they?  -  This shining example of course designer Harry Colt’s fine work, crafted into the rolling grounds of a beautiful Georgian mansion that is now a very welcoming club house,  presents the visitor with a most pleasant way to spend a Friday.

We could have had a father and sons tournament last Friday, as there were no less than five fathers and sons playing together; topped off with Tom and Liam Doyle who were very welcome Teetours virgins.  The five did not include John and Gary Poole who, despite being in the same team claim to be completely unrelated. However, I understand that John Poole’s great grand father had a bike, so the jury is still deliberating
