Enville 26.2.19 Results

prev next

With temperatures in the high teens, last Tuesday was the warmest day of the record breaking February we have just enjoyed.

Shorts had clearly been hastily extracted from the bottom of summer wardrobes, before their time and, in some cases,  before being given the once over with the iron!  Martin Bosco, of Harbourne GC,  was a strong contender for the “outfit most likely to frighten the wildlife”

One player was keen to point out that his agent would need to speak to me about the rights to publish his photograph.  I asked if his photograph usually appears in Hello, Heat or Vogue, but his playing partners quickly said No - Farmers Weekly!

We were both beneficiaries and victims of the unseasonal start to Spring.

It is easy to forget that before watering and drainage systems,  golf was predominantly played in the spring and autumn.  As we watch golf on Sky from around the world, we now expect the courses in Britain to be perfect all the time.  Sadly, that expectation is unrealistic; this early warm weather has allowed greens staff to deep hollow-tine the greens earlier than usual.   Please don’t moan at the diligent Enville staff, they are only doing their jobs when nature allows them to.

Notwithstanding the uneven putting surfaces, nine two’s were recorded and half the field scored forty points or more, and from the look on may faces the overriding feeling was one of delight at being outside in the sunshine.

Fourth and fifth places were decided a count back between Dave Griffiths & Mark Butler; Pete Stanway & Chris Johnson both on45 points.

Third went to Matt Harrison & Michael Deeley with 47 points

Second with 48 was Martin Gadsby & Mark Geal

First place went to Colin Parker & Richard Saxon with a blistering 54 points.  Richard came in on seven holes contributing 23 points an average of 3.3  Colin came in on 11 holes contributing 31 points - an average of 2.8
