Kedleston 23.5.22

prev next

It was our first visit to Kedleston. And long-awaited it has been, as this most beautiful Parkland course has had terrific improvement over the last few years; culminating in its deserved acquisition of Open Qualifier status in 2018.

Kedleston is one of the youngest courses we play, having opened in 1946. The original layout was done by the great James Braid just prior to the outbreak of the Second World War.

Both the course and the catering in the clubhouse were enjoyed by all and I'm delighted to report we will be returning in 2023.

The scores over the last two events have been very interesting:

  • At Coxmoor last week the top score was 101 and the bottom score was 81
  • At Kedleston this week, the top score was 92 and the bottom score was 79.

I'm sure the Coxmoor results raised one or two eyebrows. However, I think the scores reveal something a little deeper, when considered in the context of the comparison table below.

Add to this the fact that Coxmoor is a free-running, heathland course with a number of elevated tees designed to take advantage of the topography, compared to the flatter parkland of Kedleston and the reasons for the score differences become much more apparent.
