MIDLANDS GOLF CHALLENGE 2023

The weather nearly got the better of us a Kedleston on day one.  Despite that, the course and the club came in for high praise from everyone.  Some of you even declared it to be your favourite of the tournament!

Little Aston maintained it’s high quality presentation of this classic Harry Colt course with very fast greens and outstanding service in the clubhouse.

Another brilliant addition to the event was Sherwood Forest - a very stern test of heathland golf if ever there was one.  The course was beautifully presented and the service in the clubhouse was very good (I had one of the best omelettes I can remember.)

Day one and two were dominated by Welshman Wynne Walters (9.0) and Mike Brady (5.7) who were leading the field with 91 points.  Their Yorkshire playing partners on the first two days said that they played steady, solid golf on both days.  Although they were not in the prizes on day three, they still managed a creditable 43 points to take overall first prize.

Wynne Walters made a very humble acceptance speech saying that he had played in this event for many years and never managed a previous finish higher that 20th.

A notable perfect tee shot on the 15th at Sherwood, produced yet another hole-in-one for Sicklehome Golf Club’s Andy Naylor (11.3).  In true Yorkshire benevolence Andy bought two packets of dry roasted peanuts and put them on the bar for all to enjoy.

Everyone enjoyed themselves, much fun was had by all and much beer consumed too.  I hope to see as many of you as possible at next year’s event which I hope to finalise in August.

Many thanks for your support

Tony.
