Little Aston AM-AM

Tuesday 2nd May RESULTS

prev next

The day before this event I was sitting outside my local having a pint in the sunshine.  For the first time, it felt like summer was arriving - it's just a shame that spring failed to turn up this year.

Little Aston was in super condition, beautifully presented and much enjoyed by all.

There were many first time visitors and I tried to offer some pre-round advice: Little Aston is a cleverly crafted, Harry Colt, risk and reward course - if you take the risks, rarely will you reap the rewards.  Play the course with your handicap in mind; where you get shots, use them, don't try to beat them.   The final scores reflected the subtle nuances of the course.

Not only was the course in very good condition but the food and beverage was dispensed in style by the terrific house team - not many visitors are used to table service of drinks out on the terrace.  The whole place is now run better than I have ever known in my 15 years as a member.

  • With prizes to 4th place, Darrel Gibson, Ian Southern and John Carolan (plus a pro-score) just made it with 83.
  • Chris Hobbs drafted his daughter Kerry in as a late replacement; playing off 8, Kerry made a good contribution to the 84 point total.
  • Stephen Brodrick's team 85 points (maximum handicap 11) just got pipped into second on a count back by Martin Dunn's team who are this week spraying champagne.
