Ladbrook 25.4.22

The basic essentials have always been here. The layout of the course has a very challenging back nine with some real thinking golfers’ holes (possibly not entirely suitable for all members of Teetours)

We have been unlucky here on several occasions in the past. We’ve had rain, snow and occasional water logging, which has not shown this beautiful parkland course in its best light.

However, today we had a beautiful spring day. Although we are still on winter rules, the fairways did not need it. They were full, lush and running well. The greens were immaculate with not a blemish on them.

The greens team are clearly doing their job very efficiently and have already started preparing temporary greens ready for next winter.

Nearest the pin in two was on the 10th hole. Alan Hope‘s second shot lipped the hole and finished only 9 inches from the cup. Imagine how dismayed he was when he got there to find that Phil Allcock has already put his ball to within 6 inches.

Phil Quinn is a scratch player who has found it very frustrating to be absent from his dad’s team, for eight months, due to injury. Phil is a plumber and has been suffering from a condition, in both arms, called “Plumbers elbow”. Apparently this is attributed to daily constant screwing. (Oh please! - threaded pipes and plumbing fittings)

Many thanks to those who made themselves available for late replacements to make up teams: One completely amalgamated team contained Allan Tubb, Eddie Harvey, Adrian Tinker and Karen Palmer, making her debut as a Teetours virgin.  When I took the team photo on the 18th, I could see they had enjoyed themselves. They also scored well and had a podium finish with 90 points.

Three scores of 88 points were returned but the last one in was from Geoff Brown’s team; they also had the best back nine with 46 points for 5th place, which missed out, by one point, to Dave Roger’s team that scored 89 for 4th place.

Top slot was decided on a 92-point count back. Derek Pedley’s team had 8 points on the final hole but Michael Whitehouse’s team (ably assisted by stand-in James Howell) had one more to clinch it.

The next event is on May 19th at Coxmoor.  If anyone has a reservation for it and cannot play, or needs reserves, please let me know?
